May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. During May, the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports challenges Americans to get moving to get active and fit. The month is celebrated around the country with a number of local events.
According to Melissa Johnson, executive director of the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, which started National Physical Activity and Sports Month in 1983, Adults need at least 30 minutes of activity 5 days each week, and children need at least 60 minutes of daily active play.
Here are couple of ways to get started on the path to better health:
1. Sign up to take the President’s Challenge.
The National President’s Challenge is a nationwide call to action for a healthier America. All you have to do is be active five days a week for six out of eight weeks, and log your activity. Register before May 29 to get started.
2. Take the Adult Fitness Test.
You can learn how fit you are in 4 areas:
- Aerobic Fitness
- Muscular Strength & Endurance
- Flexibility
- Body Composition
